The construction of the Stuart Town Gaol and associated Police Station was commenced in 1907 utilising stone and timber obtained from the district. Following its closure in 1938, the building was used for police storage purposes. The gaol is now part of the local branch of the National Trust, the key is obtainable from the old Hartley St School.
