Nyhavn var tidligere en driftig havn med sømænd, værtshuse og prostituerede. Nu om dage er Nyhavn et sted med mange dyre restauranter og barer, og besøges af mange turister. Mange af bygningerne er fredede, også Nyhavn 17 hvor Tatoo Ole er.
Den danske konge Frederik d. 9 har fået lavet flere tatoveringer hos Tatoo Ole, og der hænger der også flere fotos af kongen og hans tatoveringer i tatorvørbutikken. På døren er der skrevet følgende: "´Kongens tatovør - kongen af tatoveringer´.?
Forfatteren John Irving har i forbindelse med sin bog "Indtil jeg finder dig" researchet hos Tatoo Ole, og en del af handlingen foregår her.
Tatoo Ole, Nyhavn 17 is the oldest tattoo shop in the world. It was started in 1884 by Gustav Bechmann and is today owned by tattoo artist Majbritt Petersen.
Nyhavn was formerly a port with sailors, pubs and prostitutes. Nowadays, Nyhavn is a place with many expensive restaurants and bars, and is visited by many tourists. Many of the buildings are listed, also Nyhavn 17 where Tatoo Ole is.
The Danish king Frederik the 9th has had several tattoos made at Tatoo Ole, and there are also several photos of the king and his tattoos in the tattoo shop. On the door is written the following: "´The king's tattoo artist - the king of tattoos´.
