The fresco (20.4 m by 4.4 m) was made at the request of the sports manager (Georges Soleil) of the time during the construction of the martial arts room. Painted by Patrick Haugen, young (at the time) and talented artist from Waremme, in summer 1988.
I contacted the artist via Facebook and here is his experience from that time: "Almost 30 years ago, a competition was organised to embellish this 80+m2 wall. The original project was of 2 fighters (there was martial arts training in the room) but I was asked for something less "violent" so I proposed what you see now. The main character (running) is taken from the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
I did this in 30 days on a small scaffold on wheels and with acrylic paints. It was my first large format, I had just left school. Don't ask me what I think of it today...like any artist ;) ...The "presentation" took place in September 88.”
