Coordinates are for the Afghanistan Memorial in front of the former Canadian Forces Station.
The Station began life in 1951 as the Canadian Army's 26 Central Ordnance Depot. The location was selected due to its proximity to Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railway lines.
Upon unification of the Canadian Military in 1968 the site was briefly renamed Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Cobourg. However, the site lacked the necessary two major lodger units and was renamed CFS Cobourg.
The National Defence White Paper of 1970 identified the Station as surplus. Its materials were sent to depots in Toronto and Montreal ad the Station was closed and the assets sold.
It is now an industrial park operated by the Town of Cobourg. Many of the original buildings are still in existence, as are houses used by the resident military community.
