It is believed that a church has stood on this site since 440AD. This early church would have been no more than a wooden hut.

Some of the present stone church is medieval and is mentioned in 13th-century tax records.

The building was enlarged in 1503, and underwent a major restoration in 1874.

There are two bells in the bellcote and both appear to be in good condition. I could see some inscriptions on the bells.
