The Major Theatre was built by C. A. Swiercinsky in 1921. The theater was air-conditioned and fully equipped with all the latest devices for motion pictures. The electrical and neon marquee and display were also of the very latest type. The Theater burned down in the 1980s and the lot was transformed into this fine garden. This white bench, dedicated to
Becky (Rochek) Hughes, is on the east side of the garden. She is interred nearby, in
Washington Cemetery.
