Founded in 1849 by ironworker John Campbell, Ironton was once one of the foremost producers of iron in the world. This blast furnace is one of several that survive of the ninety that once worked here. A historical marker nearby gives a brief history of iron work here, and lists the locations of several surviving iron furnaces in the county.
