Many of the 88HA series of benchmarks have proven either impossible to find, or nearly so, in part to growth of vegetation in the intervening years, in part due to the inaccurate coordinates given in the datasheets. 88HA009 might have proven equally difficult a find, had it not been for this inclusion: "
13 m SouthWest from power-pole #2-4". Fortuitously, said power pole was still in place, still bearing its identification plate. The inclusion of a sketch with the datasheet didn't hurt, either.
About 5 kilometres north on North Fork Road from Highway 3 in the west end of Grand Forks is a large outcrop, more like a sizeable hill, on the west side of the road, with loose rock on the south end and more solid bedrock on the north end, where 88HA009 will be found, about at road level.
