This statue represents the United States Express Mail Service employee during the time between of the Pony Express and Airmail. When the trains hauled the mail across the nation.
Much like the riders of the Pony Express, most of the Rail Express workers involved with hauling the mail were armed.
This statue is a replica of the Heinz Warneke, Express Mail Carrier, 1936, painted and patinated plaster, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Gift of Heinz Warneke, 1980.1.Dimensionsare: 52 x 20 x 15 in. (132.1 x 50.8 x 38.1 cm).
The Express Mail Carrier by Heinz Warneke was presented to The Railroaders Memorial Museum by the Rotary Club of Altoona. April 3, 1982.
