Farvandene omkring Nyord er meget vanskelige at gennemsejle med mange grunde og snoede sejlløb. Det var det i gammel tid og er det også stadig i dag.

Den vigtigste sejlrute mellem København og de syddanske øer samt Nordtyskland gik indenom Møn igennem Nyords farvandene. Og det var i mange hundrede år været dem som boede på Nyord og kendte farvandene som hjalp med at få skibene sikkert igennem. Det var deres pligt selv at lodse eller skaffe en lodser til at hjælpe dem igennem.

I 1721 grundlagde man lodseri på Nyord. Man ved dog at man også i 1500 havde lodser på øen. Lodstvangen drejede sig om Bøgestrømmen og det snævre farvand der var omkring Nyord, og alle øens gårde havde pligt til at stille op med en lods.

Man kan stadig i dag Øst for Nyord by se det lille udkigshus Møllestangen fra 1882, som blev brugt til at kigge efter skibene. I 2013 indviede Hendes Majestæt Dronning Magrethe II Møllestangen som Danmark mindste museum. Det er 4 kvadratmeter stort og indeholder historien om lodsernes arbejde og lidt om Nyords historie

Når man besøger Nyord, er det oplagt at tage gåturen ud til Møllestangen hvor man kan nyde udsigten til Mønbroen, Stege og til Sydsjælland.

Der er gratis adgang til museet, fra solopgang til solnedgang.

English: The waters around Nyord are very difficult to navigate with many grounds and winding sailing lanes. It was in ancient times and still is today.

The most important sailing route between Copenhagen and the southern Danish islands as well as northern Germany went through Møn through the waters of Nyord. And for many hundreds of years it had been those who lived on Nyord and knew the waters that helped get the ships safely through. In 1721, a pilotage was founded on Nyord. It is known, however, that in 1500 they also had pilots on the island. The pilotage was about Bøgestrømmen and the narrow waters around Nyord, and all the island's farms had a duty to line up with a pilot.

You can still see East of Nyord town today the small lookout house Møllestangen from 1882, which was used to look for the ships. In 2013, Her Majesty inaugurated Queen Magrethe II Møllestangen as Denmark's smallest museum. It is 4 square meters in size and contains the story of the pilots' work and a little about Nyord's history

When you visit Nyord, it is obvious to take the walk out to Møllestangen where you can enjoy the view to Mønbroen, Stege and to South Zealand.

There is free admission to the museum, from sunrise to sunset.
