These silhouette sculptures are placed within the fencing surrounding the Fryers Millennium Green. A public green space owned by the local council.
The sculptures were designed by a local artist in conjunction with year 6 primary school students to celebrate their communities mining heritage.
It was commissioned by the North Tyneside Council as part of the Heritage Of Burradon Project.
The sculptures were made locally from cast iron steel. They consist of 4 abstract panels depicting various images associated with working class life and the local area. The final panel has hand prints with initials engraved in to them in the shape of a wheel. I am assuming these are the hand prints of the children involved in the design.
