Long Description:
The Republic F-84 Thunderstreak, commonly referred to as Thunderstreak or Streak, was an American-made fighter-bomber in service with the Royal Netherlands Air Force from 1955 to 1970. 311 Squadron at Volkel airbase started using the first aircraft in December 1955, followed by 312 Squadron in April 1956. After that followed 313, 314, 315 and 316 Squadron. The last three squadrons were stationed at Eindhoven Air Base, the other three at Volkel.

The Thunderstreak was not an easy device, and many accidents happened with it, especially in the beginning. In total 180 Streaks have been flown with the Royal Netherlands Air Force. Of these, 75 were lost, or 42%, until the last example was scrapped by 314 Squadron in December 1970. Thirty pilots were killed, including three Belgians who followed flight training in the Netherlands.
