Gilze-Rijen Air Base is the helicopter base of the Air Force. The helicopters are part of the Defense Helicopter Command. They mainly support the airmobile brigade, special forces and naval vessels. They also fly for NATO and UN operations and as a fire extinguisher helicopter. At the base is a knowledge center that teaches soldiers how to survive when their plane has crashed: the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Extraction School.
