This Howard Replica town clock manufactured by The Verdin Company stands proudly in a landscaped plot at the southern tip of the Visitor's Center and Train Station in Ashland, Virginia.
The pair of illuminated faces face north and south, making it readable by train passengers traveling in either direction. Each dial is white with black Arabic numerals and bulbous hands that have spade tips. Its fluted, round column post with a square base is painted black with gold highlights. Text, also in gold, on both sides of the header reads:
EST. 1858
ASHLAND
An oval sign is just north of the clock reads "Ashland-Hanover Visitor's Center" in large white letters on a green background with concentric red and yellow borders. The back side lists the names of approximately 150 donors and reads:
Ashland Town Clock
Given By Friends and Residents of the Town of Ashland In Recognition of Ashland's 150th Birthday. Dedicated November 8, 2008.
A metal nameplate at the bottom of the clock post's square base identifies this as a "Verdin Street Clock 3R08". The clock was working and told the time correctly on the day of my visit.
