The books written by Hotze de Roos are about the Frisian twin brothers Sietse and Hielke Klinkhamer, who experience all kinds of adventures with their boat "De Kameleon" in the fictional village of Lenten.

The first book was published in 1949 and number 71 was published in 2019. The last 11 books are published after the death of the original author and written by other writers. The books are also translated in Frisian and German and more than 13 million books have been sold.

Since 2013 there are also 2 movies made about "De Kameleon".

The statue was made by Annemie de Wit and unveiled in 2019.
