"Built in 1835, Smith School housed children from grades one through eight. Most walked to school. One of those students later became the owner of the building in the 1955 when the closed school houses were auctioned off."
The building was restored prior to the 1976 Bicentennial celebrations. Many of the original furnishings have been returned to leave one with the nostalgic look of the early 1900's.
Classes from modern day schools will visit for the day for their lessons and period activities. Such as making butter, sawing wood, and pony rides.
Suzanne King from Mifflin, PA, Ron Lyter from Willow Street, PA, have given pre arranged tours. Everyone seems to enjoy a visit to Smith School.
