La Provence est un quotidien régional français créé en 1997 à Marseille. Il est né de la fusion des deux quotidiens anciennement dénommés Le Provençal et Le Méridional, jadis contrôlés tous deux par l'ancien maire de Marseille, Gaston Defferre.

Histoire
Initialement, La Jeune République était un quotidien populaire de Marseille fondé en 1873 par Léo Taxil (1851-1907).
Ce journal devient à la suite de plusieurs remaniements, tour à tour Le Petit Provençal (1868-1944) avec son supplément Le Petit Provençal illustré (1898-1908), Le Provençal (1944-1997) et La Provence en 1997.
Depuis 1890, il paraît en grand format ou format berlinois.
La Provence rayonne sur trois départements : Bouches-du-Rhône, Vaucluse et Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
Depuis décembre 2001, La Provence diffuse sur Marseille le quotidien gratuit Marseille Plus, après avoir lancé Marseille l'Hebdo, hebdomadaire diffusé à 15 000 exemplaires en 2005. Il co-détenait également depuis 1999 avec le groupe Nice-Matin la S.A Corse Presse, éditrice du quotidien Corse-Matin. Il en est devenu l'unique actionnaire depuis le 1er décembre 2014.
Le quotidien devient en 2008 propriété du Groupe Hersant médias.
En 2015, la maquette subit d’importants changements : le titre est désormais bleu sur fond blanc, ainsi que les titres des sections, qui sont agrandies.

La Provence emploie 476 collaborateurs en 2018 et réalise un chiffre d'affaires de 66 189 600 €. Elle enregistre une perte de 671 600 €.

La Provence is a French regional daily created in 1997 in Marseille. It was born from the merger of the two dailies formerly called Le Provençal and Le Méridional, both formerly controlled by the former mayor of Marseille, Gaston Defferre.

History
Initially, La Jeune République was a popular daily in Marseille founded in 1873 by Léo Taxil (1851-1907).
Following several revisions, this newspaper became Le Petit Provençal (1868-1944) with its supplement Le Petit Provençal illustrated (1898-1908), Le Provençal (1944-1997) and La Provence in 1997.
Since 1890, it has appeared in large format or in Berlin format.
Provence shines in three departments: Bouches-du-Rhône, Vaucluse and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
Since December 2001, La Provence has been broadcasting the free daily Marseille Plus on Marseille, after launching Marseille l'Hebdo, a weekly with 15,000 copies in 2005. Since 1999, it has also co-owned SA Corse Presse with the Nice-Matin group, Editor of the daily Corse-Matin. He became the sole shareholder since December 1, 2014.
In 2008, the daily became the property of the Hersant media group.
In 2015, the layout underwent important changes: the title is now blue on a white background, as well as the section titles, which are enlarged.
