"SULLIVAN Richard G. "Dickie" Age 57, of Horseheads, NY, died very unexpectedly at home on Wednesday morning, April 5, 2006. ... Dick was a lifelong resident in the village of Horseheads and gave unselfishly and continually to his community. He worked with his family at Sullivan's Fire Apparatus in Horseheads. For 42 years he has worked for Erway Ambulance Service. He has been known throughout the fire service community as one of the most recognizable figures in the field. He has been a member of the Horseheads Village Fire Dept. for 38 years, 27 of those serving as Chief. Dick was the 2nd-longest active Fire Chief in New York State. ... A fire fighters memorial will commence at 7 p.m. ... In lieu of flowers those wishing to remember Dick may do so through memorials to Horseheads Fire and Rescue Co., 134 N. Main St., Horseheads, NY, or the American Cancer Society, PO Box 7, E. Syracuse, NY 13057."
