Commissioned by the Calgary Stampede, this 6.4m tall Rainbow Trout sculpture was created by local artist Jeff de Boer and unveiled in 2016. It took over 2,000 man hours to build. The trout's body is made up of six different coloured segments that are offset from each other. The sculpture is meant to symbolize Calgary's culture, energy and diversity.

It may look like it's hard to line up all 6 distinct pieces of the sculpture but there is a very specific "sweet spot" across the entrance, near the fence line, where you can stand to see all the pieces together. See if you can find that marked spot in the sidewalk.

Be sure to check out this sculpture at night too when it is lit up.

If you enjoyed Rainbow Trout, be sure to check out the rest of the art work on the Stampede Grounds. Rainbow Trout is actually just one stop on the Stampede's Art Walk, a 19 piece self-guided walking tour highlighting many of the interesting sculptures and murals around the grounds. All of the stops are waymarks too!
