Soccer
Formed in 1962 , SD Compostela began playing in the Stadium of the Residence of the University of Santiago de Compostela while the construction of the Municipal Field of Santa Isabel was finished . The September 22 of 1963 inaugurated the said field. It had a simple closure with a roof, and in 1969 a grandstand and spotlights were installed in it, at a cost of 1 million pesetas. The SD Compostela played in that field until 1993 (its subsidiary until 2003 , when the field has been refurbished as part of the Municipal Sports Center, with the name of Santa Isabel).
Construction work on the San Lázaro Multipurpose began in 1991 , in the eastern suburbs of San Lázaro Parish . The stadium is oval in shape and the roof is terracotta in color, designed to withstand a possible widening with a second step on the west side. The field is surrounded by an athletics track 400 meters long, something unusual in Spanish stadiums. Most of the fans can be seated in individual chairs, all of them under cover.
The inauguration took place on June 24th of 1993 , with the four tournament between Deportivo Coruna , CD Tenerife , CA River Plate and São Paulo FC . Depor and River Plate played the first game, scoring Bebeto the first goal.
On November 8, 2018, the City Council of Santiago de Compostela approved the name change of the stadium in recognition of Vero Boquete , one of the best Galician footballers.
Athletics
The Municipal Stadium Verónica Boquete de San Lázaro has one of the 2 athletics tracks of the Galician capital , being the other the one of the University Stadium. The San Lázaro athletics track has 8 lanes but does not really reach 400 meters in length (by a few centimeters), so the city of Santiago de Compostela has never been able to obtain approval by the Galician Athletics Federation for the competition officers. However, several local athletics clubs use the stadium’s athletics facilities to train, with the number of registered users being close to 350, about 300 federated and another 50 individuals. Currently the opening hours for training are from 17:00 to 22:00, and anyone can use the facilities for free, upon registration at the stadium offices.
