During the imperial visits to Augustusburg Castle, the hotel beds in Brühl were not enough for the onlookers.
In 1888 the hotel "Deutscher Kaiser" with dance hall and coffee garden was built on the site of the "Electoral Comoedienhaus".

In 1919 P. Becher, the publisher of the Brühler newspaper, took over the building as a residential and commercial building and set up a printing house that stood there until 1970. In the place of the former hotel and dance hall, the "Galerie am Schloß" was built in 1981 - using the old facade - in front of the Kreissparkasse Köln.
