The Giant Pool Balls, the three oversized billiard balls on Lake Aasee, were created in 1977 by the American pop art representative Claes Oldenburg as part of the first sculpture projects in Münster. The concrete spheres (with a diameter of three and a half meters) have long become one of Münster's landmarks. Originally it was planned to distribute the colossal balls all over the city, but only three were arranged on the Aaeterrassen.
