The town of Noble, located on Highway 77 south of Norman/Oklahoma City was established during the Land run of 1889, and was named for the U.S. Secretary of the Interior John W. Noble. A post office was established in 1889. Today, the city has a population of about 6900, and is known as the Rose Rock Capital of the World. (Rose rocks (barite rosette) is a rare rock found only in central Oklahoma, Kansas, California and Egypt.
This is a granite monument in front of the fire department listing the names of the volunteer firefighters in the FIRST fire department in town. Behind the monument is a two-wheeled wooden horse-drawn wagon used by that Department. The monument indicates that this wagon dates to 1912.
