Lehigh is a small ghost town five miles south of the county seat of Coalgate. Lehigh was first settled in 1877 with the opening of coal mines. It flourished until the 1920's when the mines shut down. Today, there are about 285 residents and no businesses.
The Lehigh fire department is located on Broadway (Highway 75) at 2nd Street. This is a small volunteer department which serves the town and surrounding rural areas. On the south side of the metal building is a wood pole on which the siren is mounted. This is a single-horn stationary unit with the horn facing southeast.
