Cottonwood School - Coalgate Vicinity, OK - WPA Projects on Waymarking.com

The Cottonwood area, near Coalgate was the recipient of a WPA-constructed schoolhouse in 1938-9. This is a four-room one-story building with a hipped roof. It is constructed of rusticated and coursed native sandstone, which has been painted white. The original roof and small dormer has been replaced with a metal covering.

The main entrance is centered on the facade and consists of double glass doors recessed behind an arched opening. The six-unit ribbon windows on either side have been partially infilled with wood paneling. Concrete block extensions have been added to the north side and rear of the school. A canopy shelter has been added to the front walkway. The school building is still in use as a school.
