It is located in the Lewis Building, an art deco style building just north of Route 66 (Foothill Blvd.).
The plaque says, "Dedicated to the Landlubbing Pirate Tiburcio Tapia who came to Cucamonga in 1839 with a fortune earned in the Wild West Days of Los Angeles where he sold a variety of smuggled goods from around the world. He set up a temporary home to watch his cattle, but never permanently settle in this dry and dangerous fringe of the frontier. Without a bank int he area, Tapia is rumored to have buried his gold under a local tree where it remains to this day."
