Nice little underground crossing, off the beaten track. There are elevators for those who cannot take the stairs. It's also a great shortcut to get to the Greenwich side.

"The tunnel, 371 meters long and passing about 15 meters under the Thames, was designed by engineer Sir Alexander Binnie. Work began in June 1899 and the inauguration took place on 4 August 1902. The north end was damaged by bombs during WWII and the repaired sites are still clearly visible due to the steel plates which reduce the diameter of the tunnel in the last few meters.

The purpose of this tunnel was to allow workers living on the south bank of the Thames to come and work in the Docklands.

Access to the tunnel is from either side of both sides by elevators and spiral staircases located under small domes. The tunnel and the elevators were renovated between 2010 and 2012. "
