EN South of the splendid village of Lurs perched on a ridge overlooking the Durance valley, the D 462 road passes in front of this small sanctuary dedicated to Saint Michael. The original building dates back to the 12th century; in 1621, it was reworked on its foundations. The front wall dates from 1869; in "neo-neo-Gothic" style, it supports a bell tower-wall built at the same time.
Saint Michael, the archangel, is the second patron of the village. An old tradition was to light a fire in front of this chapel on the eve of the feast of Lurs.
The last restoration to date of the chapel, completed in 2015 or 2016, was followed by a painting competition organized to create a painting intended to adorn the interior of the chapel. The choice fell on the work of Annie Reynier, which shows the archangel Saint Michael slaying the dragon above the village of Lurs. The painting was blessed and put in place in the fall of 2016.
