Lela Carpenter is buried in historic Wortham Bend Cemetery, in rural Bosque County, TX, in the old Wortham Bend community. Her headstone notes that she was "Killed by Lightning" in 1906

Unfortunately, there's not much to be found about this accident, but if something appears, it'll be at her Findagrave page (see below). Mrs. Carpenter's marble headstone has "At Rest" at the top, and below the Gates to Heaven is this inscription:

Lela
Wife of
A.Y. Carpenter

Born Oct. 8, 1884
Killed by Lightning
May 24, 1906.

An epitaph is on the plinth:

She was a kind and affectionate wife,
A fond mother and a friend to all.
