“Man and child - progress” is a gift from the Utrecht City Relaxation Foundation to the municipality of Utrecht. The initiative to do so arose around 1980. The placement in Park Transwijk arose from the fact that the Urban Relaxation Foundation organizes numerous cultural activities in this park.
"Man and child - progress" is an enlargement of the eponymous statue designed in 1963 by order of the Wereldkinderen Foundation. "Man and child - progress" refers to the circle of life, the growth of the city of Utrecht and confidence in the future.
The statue is made of bronze and faces the pond of the Transwijk park.
