During a vacation in Indonesia we visited mount Bromo. The ascent to the top was pretty difficult, especcially for my wife who was ill at the time. At the end of the ascent there is a stairway with 254 steps (tripadvisor.com). It took a lot of effort to reach the top but it was worth it. At the top of the stairway there is a platform from which you can see the crater of the volcano..
