There must be a story behind the significance of this mural. Entitled Lagniappe (pronounced lan-yap), the word means a little something extra. Common in Louisiana, it might mean a tip, or some type of unexpected bonus.

The mural is painted on the north brick wall at 122 S. Main. It has a fancy, sort of whimsical feel about it. At the east end is what must be a caboose, but it is painted green and has a curved scenic view dome on the top. Alongside the railroad tracks is a hotel, with balconies and shutters. A three-tiered fountain is at the center and on the west end a cabin porch with a crane sitting on it. A tree trunk has wood boards nailed to it with the words: Lagniappe / noun(lan-yap) / A Louisiana word meaning a / Little Something Special.

The mural was painted by Bob Palmer and his art students.
