DE: Auf dem Kölner Friedhof Melaten findet sich im nordwestlichen Teil des Friedhofs am westlichen Hauptweg die von August Schmiemann Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts für den Kaufmann Johann Müllemeister geschaffene Figur "Der Sensenmann". Im Verlauf der Zeit wurde die Statue zum Wahrzeichen des Friedhofs.
Die Statue des personifizierten Todes wurde aus Sandstein gefertigt, sie ist etwa 2m hoch und hält in der rechten Hand ein Stundenglas, welches die ablaufende Zeit der Menschen symbolisiert und in der anderen Hand eine Sense. Die Sense aber wird immer wieder mal gestohlen und muss dann vom Grabpaten Johann Steinnus ersetzt werden. Geöffnet ist der Friedhof im Sommer von 7:00 bis 20:00 Uhr, im Winter von 8:00 bis 17:00 Uhr.

EN: The figure "The Grim Reaper" created by August Schmiemann at the end of the 19th century for the merchant Johann Müllemeister can be found in the northwestern part of the cemetery on the western main path of Cologne's Melaten cemetery. Over time, the statue became the landmark of the cemetery.
The statue of the personified death was made of sandstone, it is about 2m high and holds an hourglass in the right hand, which symbolizes the passing of time and in the other hand a scythe. The scythe is stolen from time to time and then has to be replaced by the grave godfather Johann Steinnus. The cemetery is open in summer from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and in winter from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
