We visited Wilson Butte Cave in 1989 when the Idaho State University was doing an archeological excavation. They let us observe the ancient artifacts they had uncovered. The thick dome of lava rock, the narrow opening into the cavern, and the sand-covered floor made it an ideal shelter for indigenous people over thousands of years.
Its remote location is accessible only dirt dirt roads and hiking.
