From the State Historic Preservation Office website:

Narrative Description:
The Louis Carl Mehlhose House is an end-gable two-story late Greek Revival house with a small one-story addition in the back, an entrance portico at the left side of the north-facing facade and a side portico at the east side to provide shelter for a north-facing door on the rear addition. Window hoods on the right side of the facade and the front portico both have late-nineteenth century bracketing, while the front gable of the main structure, the gable of the portico and the supports of the side portico exhibit late Victorian-style scrollwork vergeboard. Other Victorian features include large turned balusters at the front entrance, spindle decoration under the front portico roof, spindle and scroll decoration at its pinnacle and fish-scale shingles under the main gable and the porch gable, as well as on the front window hood.

Statement of Significance:
The Louis Mehlhose House is architecturally significant as a Greek Revival house updated with Late Victorian elements to reflect late nineteenth-century architecture. It is historically significant for its association with a family of Wyandotte businessmen and a respected educator and his daughter, a twentieth-century Michigan artist.
