Arbroath is the largest town in the county of Angus and is situated on the east coast of Scotland. It has two fairly large cemeteries, and the westerly of them can be found on the outskirts on the A933 Forfar Road.

The Western Cemetery was opened in 1867 and occupies an irregular rectangle site in tree-lined parkland. It is dominated by the Patrick Allan-Fraser Chapel which sits in the centre of the cemetery. Work started in 1875 on this red sandstone building, and took nine years to complete.

The only entrance to the cemetery is on the eastern side, through a stone arch which sits on the corner of Forfar Road and Keptie Road.
