Ruby Grant Park is the newest addition to the Norman park system. Dedicated in December 2020, the 148-acre park is still very much under construction. Completed areas include the Ruby Grant Playground, a large handicap-accessible children's play area, which is suitable for children of all abilities. Unusual for an outdoor play area, some features include sound effects, such as identification of bird calls and animal sounds. Among other features, the signage throughout the play area is in raised letters and in Braille.
This park is carved from the Thomas Sherman Grant homestead, established in the Land Run of 1889. His daughter Ruby Grant, a long time Oklahoma teacher, contributed the land to the OU Foundation with the stipulation that it become a park. The Foundation, which did not desire to create and manage a park, sold the land to the City of Norman for a fraction of its appraised value.
