First Baptist Church was organized in 1897 and has been located in this building since it was constructed in 1918. This is a two-story red brick building with a fully exposed basement level.
Some of the church windows are one-over-one double hung units, but the most impressive are located at the center of the south and east elevations. These are triple units of fixed stained glass panes, separated by Tuscan columns which rise from the water table to just above the second floor windows.
The windows do not have a scene, but are marbleized panels with a tall slender cross-like symbol in the center pane, and slender rods with a square top on the flanking panes. Stained glass transoms are also located above each of the church's entrances.
