The statue of singer/songwriter John Lennon is located leaning against the wall of fame outside the Cavern Club on Mathew Street in Liverpool city centre.
Mathew Street is a street in Liverpool, notable as the location of the new Cavern Club, and many attractions related to the Beatles.

The life size brass sculpture of John Lennon (a member of the Beatles pop group) was created by Arthur Dooley. It was unveiled on the 16th January 1997 and is a representation of the cover of John's 1975 solo album, "Rock 'n' Roll".
The sculpture shows John wearing a leather jacket open at the front with an upturned collar, over a roll neck sweat shirt, jeans and boots. He has his hands in his jeans pockets and is casually leaning against the wall resting on his right shoulder with his right leg crossed over the front of his left leg. He is relaxed looking forward with a slight smile on his face.

The Caverns' Wall of Fame forms a spectacular frontage to the Cavern Pub which is situated across the Street from the Cavern Club itself. It was unveiled by Gerry Marsden, Billy J. Kramer and George Melly at noon on Thursday, 16th January 1997.
The wall has the names of the 1,801 bands who played the Club from 1957 - 73 etched into individual bricks.
It also incorporates the John Lennon statue which was also unveiled for the first time. SOURCE: (visit link)

John Lennon
"John Winston Ono Lennon was a singer, songwriter, musician and a founding member of the British rock group the Beatles.
He was also an author, graphic artist, solo recording artist, peace activist and collaborator with Yoko Ono on recordings and other art projects.
He was born on 9th October 1940 in Liverpool the son of Julia Stanley and Alfred Lennon a merchant seaman.
He was raised by his mother's older sister Mimi Smith.
In the mid-1950s, he formed his first band, The Quarrymen (after Quarry Bank High School, which he attended) who, with the addition of Paul McCartney and George Harrison, later became The Beatles.

John married his first wife Cynthia Powell in 1962 and they had their only son Julian Lennon, who was named after John's mother, in 1963. They divorced in 1968.

After some years of performing in Liverpool and Hamburg, Germany, "Beatlemania" erupted in England and Europe in 1963 after the release of their singles "Love Me Do" and "Please Please Me".

In 1965 all four Beatles were recognised for their achievements when they were awarded M.B.E. medals by Queen Elizabeth II.

"John and the Beatles continued to tour and perform live until 1966, when protests over his calling the Beatles phenomenon "more popular than Jesus" and the frustrations of touring made the band decide to quit the road. They devoted themselves to studio work, recording and releasing albums such as "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", "Magical Mystery Tour" and the "White Album". Instead of appearing live, the band began making their own "pop clips" (an early term for music videos), which were featured on television programs of the time."

John married his second wife Yoko Ono in 1969.
In the late 1960s he began performing and making albums with his wife Yoko Ono, as the Beatles began to break up.

In the early 1970s John and Yoko continued to record together, making television appearances and performing at charity concerts. After the release of John's biggest hit, "Imagine", they moved to the US,

In 1975 John and Yoko gave birth to their son Sean Lennon.

"After a five-year break from music and the public eye, they made a comeback with their album "Double Fantasy", but within weeks of their re-emergence, John was murdered on the evening of 8th December 1980 by Mark David Chapman, a one-time Beatles fan angry and jealous over John's ongoing career, who fatally shot Lennon four times in the back outside his apartment building, The Dakota, as Lennon was returning from a recording session. Within minutes after being shot, John Lennon was dead at age 40. His violent death was a sudden and tragic end to the life of a talented singer and musician who wanted to make a difference in the world." SOURCE: IMDb Mini Biography By: paulabb: (visit link)
