EN: This small monument is located in the garden next to the town hall of Zermatt.

It consists of some unhewn granite blocks distributed on and around a concrete base. The largest one in the center contains a metal plate with a relief of the head of a man wearing a helmet and below it has a plaque with the inscription: "In memory of the border watch 1939 - 1945.

In addition to this monument, as a commemoration of this period, the Swiss Army organizes a ski touring race in Zermatt every two years through the terrain guarded by the troops then. The "Patrouille des Glaciers" covers 55.5 kilometers with over 4000 meters of ascent and descent each. It is considered the toughest ski touring competition in the world. The best teams complete the route in around 18 hours.
