The golfing facility near the village of Newmachar to the north of the city of Aberdeen in north-east Scotland, was started in the late 1980s in a bid to construct a championship style golf course in the Aberdeenshire countryside.
The course, designed by Dave Thomas, was opened in 1990 and named the Hawkshill Course. It can be stretched to 6,740 yards off the back (Black tees) and features water on the 1st, 9th, 10th, 13th and 17th holes. Many holes run through thickets of Scots pines and silver birch. The par is 72, with three short holes and three par fives.
A further 18 holes were constructed to the north of the clubhouse and also designed by Dave Thomas. Named the Swailend Course, it is shorter, and more open in nature than the Hawkshill. A covered driving range is also on site to the west of the clubhouse.
Newmachar Golf Club is situated west of the A947 road that runs north from Aberdeen, and lies a couple of miles south from the village of Newmachar. The club is only three miles north of Aberdeen Airport.
