This statue depicts a young Abraham Lincoln reading a book while riding a horse. It is called “On the Circuit” by Anna Hyatt Huntington. It is also known as “You g Abe Lincoln on Horseback.” This is a smaller version of the sculpture. Larger versions are on display in Oregon, New York, Illinois, and Austria.
This statue sits outside the Bethel Public Library in Bethel, Connecticut. It is to the left of the front door on a brick paved walkway. There is nothing inscribed on the pedestal. This particular casting was created in 1961.
Anna Hyatt Huntington was a sculptor who lived in multiple states in the northeastern US. She is known especially for her depictions of animals. Her sculptures can be seen around the country, as well as in Spain and Austria.
