The Rodef Sholem Cemetery is located within picturesque Wabash, Indiana. Hidden along a quiet street, this cemetery is the oldest in the state reserved for Jewish congregants. Originally began by Charles Herff, Michael and Leonard Hyman in 1854, it was later transferred to the Rodef Sholem congregation in 1869.

Rodef Sholem is Hebrew for "Rest in peace".

While there were Jewish residents within Indiana prior to the establishment of this cemetery - it is the oldest such cemetery specifically set aside for Jewish people.

Historical information is courtesy of the "Wabash County Historian" Dr Woodward, and public records.

The site itself is a beautiful lawn interspersed with various bushes and trees planted to enhance the look of the cemetary. A tall stone archway serves as the entry to the cemetery. Carved on the arch are the words "Rodef Sholem". Passing through the arch requires a spin through two iron turnstiles.

Beyond that lays a peaceful place of contemplation and rest.
