Eind 1946 neemt NS tussen Nieuw Amsterdam aan de spoorlijn Zwolle - Emmen en het olieveld van de NAM bij Schoonebeek een zeven kilometer lange goederenlijn in gebruik. In september 1996 staken de NAM en NS na vijftig jaar het olievervoer per spoor. De zogenaamde olielijn is in mei 2000 officieel gesloten. Hierna is de brug over het Stieltjeskanaal in open stand vastgezet. Nadat er jarenlang plannen zijn om het olievervoer te hervatten, is het emplacement van de NAM zo'n tien jaar na de sluiting opgebroken. Ook op andere plekken zijn delen van de rails verwijderd. In 2016 is de rest van de lijn opgebroken en blijft alleen de ophaalbrug over het Stieltjeskanaal bewaard.

Eén van de meest karakteristieke punten van de voormalige olielijn is deze brug over het Stieltjeskanaal bij het gelijknamige buurtschap. De ophaalbrug vervangt bij de verbreding van het kanaal in de jaren '70 de oorspronkelijke spoorbrug en staat tot op de dag van vandaag als iconisch punt in het landschap.
At the end of 1946, NS commissioned a seven-kilometer freight line between Nieuw Amsterdam on the Zwolle - Emmen railway line and the NAM oil field near Schoonebeek. In September 1996, the NAM and NS stopped oil transport by rail after fifty years. The so-called oil line was officially closed in May 2000. After this, the bridge over the Stieltjeskanaal was secured in open position. After years of plans to resume oil transport, the NAM yard was broken up some ten years after its closure. Parts of the rails have also been removed in other places. In 2016, the rest of the line was broken up and only the drawbridge over the Stieltjeskanaal is preserved.
One of the most characteristic points of the former oil line is this bridge over the Stieltjeskanaal near the hamlet of the same name. The drawbridge replaced the original railway bridge during the widening of the canal in the 1970s and remains an iconic point in the landscape to this day.
