This mural celebrates the Wall Street neighborhood and the city of Norwalk as a whole by incorporating symbols from around town into the letters. Norwalk is a city on the Long Island Sound, which the seagull represents. Other nods to Norwalk:
-the colorful decor in the My Three Sons arcade, reflected in the W
-the building that has been covered in Tyvek for years, which most residents view as an eyesore since construction stopped (affectionally known as the Tyvek Tower) in the letter A
-the boat in the first L represents the Sound
-the second L is the Maritime Aquarium
-The S is Norwalk's factory history
-the first T is Norwalk native Mo Vaughn
-the first E is the beach
-the second E is a nod to Norwalk's history when there used to be trolleys
-the T is the Mill Hill Historical Society, a former city hall
It is worth noting that murals have appeared around town due to a dispute between the mayor and a local real estate developer. The mayor cited three murals in town as being too large and violating zoning ordinances despite being on private property. In response, lawsuits were filed and murals proliferated.
