In Portugal there are two sorts of hiking trails, the PR and the GR. This means, Pequena Rota and Grande Rota, which translate as Short Route and Long Route. Creating and keeping these trails is usually a task of the municipalities and in this case ABF is the acronym of Albufeira, a municipality in Algarve, the southernmost region of Portugal.

This is a circular trail which can be initiated in several spots. The provided coordinates point to one of these options, near a watermill. It's called Rota do Castelo because its highlight is the medieval castle of Paderne, which dates from the Arab period.

There are some steep segments but overall it's an easy hike, with beautiful nature and a few historical sites: besides the castle, a medieval bridge and two water mills.
