ALDI is one of the largest European retailers with approximately 500 stores in the Netherlands. But they are not only active in the Netherlands, they are also active in Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal and Spain.

The history of ALDI begins in 1913 when the father of the two current founders - Karl and Theo Albrecht - started a bakery business.

Mother Anna, who comes from an entrepreneurial family, opens the first supermarket in 1914, laying the foundation for a successful supermarket chain. In 1945 both sons take over the company. Three years later, they start expanding their stores, setting up a consistent concept: limited range, high-quality products and low prices. This concept is topical to this day. The company is growing rapidly and by 1954 ALDI has a branch network of 77 points of sale in Germany.

The original supermarket will be the first self-service store. A year later, there are 100 branches in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Moeder Anna, die uit een ondernemersfamilie stamt, opent in 1914 de eerste supermarkt, waarmee de basis voor een succesvolle supermarktketen wordt gelegd. In 1945 nemen beide zonen het bedrijf over. Drie jaar later beginnen ze met de uitbreiding van filialen en zetten daarbij een consequent concept neer: beperkt assortiment, producten van hoogwaardige kwaliteit en lage prijzen. Dit concept is tot op de dag van vandaag actueel. Het bedrijf groeit snel en in 1954 beschikt ALDI over een filialennetwerk van 77 verkooppunten in Duitsland.

De originele supermarkt wordt de eerste zelfbedieningswinkel. Een jaar later zijn er 100 filialen in Noord-Rijnland-Westfalen.
