DE: Das Jagdschloss Falkenlust wurde zwischen 1729 und 1732 im Rokokostil für Kurfürst Clemens August errichtet. Vorgesehen war das Schloss als Ausgangspunkt für die Falkenjagd zwischen dem Brühler Schlosspark und dem Wesselinger Altrheinarm (dem heutigen Entenfang), es wurde aber auch von amourösen Abenteueren und geheimen Absprachen berichtet.
Mit dem Bau des Schlosses beauftragt waren der Münchener Hofbaumeister François de Cuvilliés und Michael Leveilly, der auch für die Innenausstattung zuständig war, Grundsteinlegung war am 16. Juli 1729, komplett fertig gestellt war das Schloss um 1740. Der zweigeschossige, rechteckige Hauptbau befindet sich dabei auf einer eingezäunten Fläche mit abgerundeten Ecken. Auf jedem der beiden Stockwerke befindet sich eine Wohnung mit Schlafzimmer, Garderobe und Kabinett sowie ein Speiseraum im Erdgeschoss und ein Teesalon im Obergeschoss. Das Schloss wird flankiert von eingeschossigen Gebäuden, in denen die Bediensteten, Pferde und Falken für die Jagd unter kamen. Eine etwa 750m lange Allee aus Lindenbäumen verbindet Falkenlust mit dem Schlosspark von Augustusburg.
Mit der Besetzung des Rheinlandes durch französische Truppen um 1794 ging das Schloss in den Besitz der französischen Ehrenlegion über, die es dann 1832 an die Familie Giesler, die Gründerfamilie der gleichnamigen Brühler Brauerei, verkaufte. Im Jahr 1960 übernahm dann das Land NRW das Schloss und restaurierte es aufwändig. Der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht wurde es dann 1974 und steht seit 1980 als Eintrag Nummer 2 auf der Brühler Denkmalliste. Seit 1984 ist das Schloss Falkenlust gemeinsam mit Schloss Augustusburg und ein paar weiteren Gebäuden aus dem gleichen Zeitraum als Weltkulturerbe eingestuft.

EN: The Falkenlust hunting lodge was built between 1729 and 1732 in rococo style for Elector Clemens August. The castle was intended as a starting point for the falcon hunt between the Augustusburg castle park and the oxbow lake of the Rhine near Wesseling (today's Entenfang (duck catching)), but there were also reports of amorous adventures and secret agreements.
The Munich court architect François de Cuvilliés and Michael Leveilly, who were also responsible for the interior, were commissioned with the construction of the palace. The foundation stone was laid on July 16th, 1729, and the palace was completely finished around 1740. The two-storey, rectangular main building is located on a fenced area with rounded corners. On each of the two floors there is an apartment with bedroom, cloakroom and cabinet as well as a dining room on the ground floor and a tea room on the upper floor. The castle is flanked by single-storey buildings that housed servants, horses and falcons for hunting. An approximately 750m long avenue of linden trees connects Falkenlust with the Augustusburg palace gardens.
With the occupation of the Rhineland by French troops in 1794, the castle became the property of the French Legion of Honor, who then sold it in 1832 to the Giesler family, the founding family of the Giesler brewery in Brühl. In 1960 the state of North Rhine-Westphalia took over the castle and extensively restored it. It was opened to the public in 1974 and has been as entry number 2 on the Brühl monuments list since 1980. Falkenlust Castle has been classified as a World Heritage Site together with Augustusburg Castle and a few other buildings from the same period since 1984.
