This library was rehabilited in 2009
The rehabilitation of the existing building was carried out to dedicate it to a library and media library. The stone envelope of the original building was kept, demolishing the addition made in a brick factory, which was in very poor condition. The proposal consists of incorporating a light roof that articulates the stone envelope with the new glazed area. This folded covering plane is arranged levitating over the entire building, which, as if it were origami, folds to form the sun control visor and the heel in the most massive part.
To solve the functional needs, it is decided to incorporate in the existing voids of the granite volume some flying pieces of copper to capture the light, allow natural ventilation, and that function as “parladoiros”. To solve the access and the incorporation of the toilet piece, the same concept of copper prisms is played. In the most glazed areas, to guarantee perfect control of solar radiation, there are parasols covered with micro-perforated copper sheet.
All the furniture elements, toilets in toilets, air conditioning system and interior furniture and urban furniture, were designed specifically for this project
