An old lime kiln preserved in the apply named Limehouse Conservation Area. The following information is taken from a display board at the entrance to the Conservation Area:
The draw kilns in Limehouse date back to the 1870's. Although this type of kiln required a three-day start-up period to heat the interior walls, it was considered an improvement over the earlier set kilns because they could operated continously. The draw kiln was approximately 16 meters high, making the top of the kiln level with the floor of the quarry where a ramp provided access for a horse to pull a wagon load of raw limestone to the opening at the top of the kiln.
